We appreciate NBC Montana for covering the paid off school breakfast and lunch debt across the Columbia Falls School District. Every day, the never-ending generosity of our community allows Gap Fillers Flathead to make a difference in the lives of our students.
COLUMBIA FALLS, Mont. — Across Montana, school has been in session for around a month. Multiple school districts were granted free breakfast and lunch for the school year.
Columbia Falls School District is one of the schools to have the opportunity to provide for their students.
“With the community-wide eligibility program, there’s no application for it,” said Cory Dziowgo. “We’re not going to run out of resources, so nobody is taking anybody’s opportunity to get a free breakfast or free lunch everyday.”
With the school district’s new opportunity this year, a local nonprofit called Gap Fillers stepped in to pay off the previous negative lunch accounts for a clean start to the school year.
“So when I first got to Columbia Falls,” said Dziowgo, “the Gap Fillers reached out to me rather early and explained their mission on what they want to do to help schools and families in the Flathead Valley.”
